HFC celebrates Veterans Day with Commemoration Ceremony Nov. 10

In celebration of Veterans Day, HFC Veterans Services will hold a Commemoration Ceremony for all veterans, especially HFC’s student veterans, on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 1:30 p.m. in the Student & Culinary Arts Center (Bldg. M) on the main campus.

According to HFC Enrollment Associate IV/Veterans Services Gail Bock, there will be a ceremony honoring veterans, followed by remarks from HFC President Russell Kavalhuna and HFC student veterans.

HFC music instructor G. Kevin Dewey will lead his vocal music students who will sing the National Anthem, as well as the service anthems of each branch of the United States Armed Forces:

The HFC Student Activities Office will have a station for attendees to make greeting cards to thank members of the military and veterans for their service.

Cake and other refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

She Is a Veteran

Throughout the week of Nov. 7-11, the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency’s She is a Veteran outreach campaign will be highlighted in the Student Center.

The She is a Veteran outreach campaign consists of six women veterans who represent the diverse backgrounds of Michigan veterans. These women share their stories, hoping that their personal journeys will resonate with all individuals and can encourage military women to speak up and proudly identify with their veteran status. These six are:

  • Connect women to their identity as veterans
  • Change the public perception of what veterans look like
  • Connect women veterans to benefits
  • Connect women veterans to community
