The HFC Mechatronics Technology program provides the critical skills needed for the fabrication, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial automated systems.
Multiple disciplines are included, such as industrial, electrical, mechanical, robotics, and pneumatics studies. Coursework and laboratory experiences support skills in self-directed work teams.
With a national median salary of more than $95,000 for technicians with several years of experience, this challenging field is a wise choice if you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty.
What you will learn
Following successful completion of this program, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of:
- Basic industrial computer applications.
- Occupational health and safety requirements.
- The application and interpretation of engineering drawings.
- Mathematical functions.
- The following essential knowledge and skills: troubleshooting, measurement, communication, use of hand tools, use of personal protection equipment, drawing interpretation, and problem solving.
You will also learn the skills needed to be successful and continue to grow in this field, including:
- Industry 4.0
- Working in self-directed teams
- Computer literacy
- Hands-on activities in the Industrial Automation Super-Lab, including state-of-the-art manufacturing simulators that incorporate the components found in industrial automated systems across the nation.

Career opportunities and transfer options
There are several career opportunities in the field of mechatronics technology, including:
- Automation engineer
- Industrial controls technician
- Field service engineer
- Project manager
Mechatronics technicians have a broad range of career opportunities. Most recent graduates start in field service positions or as in-house production support personnel, troubleshooting and repairing automated equipment.
After you complete the program, you can transfer to a 4-year educational institution to complete the final two years of a bachelor's program. Mechatronics Technology faculty instructor James Anderson is working on articulation agreements with several more universities.
