Access to essential resources is a key part of student and employee success at HFC. We want to make you aware of College resources and local resources that can help you throughout the year, especially as federal benefits programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) might not be issuing funds to people who normally rely on them.

The most critical matters for some members of our community are food and basic needs. Here are some resources that might be of help to you.

Hawks’ Nest student food pantry expands access

Located on the first floor of the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference (ASCC) (Building L on the main campus), the Hawks’ Nest (Room L-138) is a food pantry that provides supplemental food assistance to HFC students. Any student registered for at least one credit hour at HFC is eligible to access the Hawks’ Nest. No other documentation is required.

Normal access to the Hawks’ Nest has been twice per month. We are now expanding that access to up to four times per month. The Hawks’ Nest hours during the remainder of the Fall 2025 semester are Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may drop in or make an appointment at your convenience. You will find non-perishable foods and personal hygiene items for your use.

Faculty and staff: Please consider participating in the food drive competition, which runs until Tuesday, November 18, to stock the Hawks’ Nest, in anticipation of increased needs.

For questions or more information about the Hawks’ Nest, contact 313-317-6529 or hawksnest@hawkmail.hfcc.edu.

Student Emergency Fund adds SNAP Relief Assistance Funding

The Student Emergency Aid Fund is designed for enrolled HFC students who are facing an emergency financial situation where a moderate amount of money could help.

This fund is expanding access for eligible students in the current environment through HFC SNAP Relief Assistance Funding. Please visit the Emergency Aid website to learn about eligibility and to apply for SNAP relief funding.

For questions about the Student Emergency Aid Fund or the application process, contact ea@hfcc.edu.
