Men’s basketball clinches a spot in the NJCAA Championships, hosts game March 1

The HFC Men’s Basketball Team has concluded its regular season this week. The Hawks are currently in second place in the National Junior College Athletic Association and ranked 19th in the NJCAA rankings.

The Hawks have clinched a spot clinched a spot in the NJCAA Great Lakes B District Basketball Championship and will host a first-round game on Tuesday, March 1, at 7:00 p.m. against Alpena Community College in the Athletic Memorial Building (Bldg. L) on the main campus. First round winners advance to the semi-final games to be held Thursday, March 3, at Mott Community College in Flint.

Open to spectators

“We are allowing spectators for the March 1 game as it is a District event, our opponents are coming from four hours away, and it is the last home game for our sophomores. We will be able to accommodate the crowd,” said HFC Athletic Director Rochelle Taylor.

FOLLOW THESE REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND THE GAME:
1. Fill out the campus screening form BEFORE coming to campus.
2. Wear a face mask throughout the game.
3. Show sportsmanship and Hawk Pride throughout the game.

Also, for the week of Feb. 22, HFC has been ranked 15th in the NJCAA rankings. The Hawks will most likely be ranked higher by game time on Tuesday after defeating No. 11 seed Macomb Community College on Feb. 23, according to Taylor.

"Our Hawks have certainly been battle-tested this season, and I’m proud of the way our team has never given up," said Taylor. "I know they’re eager to earn their way back to the NJCAA National Tournament in Danville next month. We’re all excited to let the games begin!"
