F-1 Students Transferring from another U.S. Institution

HFC welcomes international students to its campus community. Admission of international students on a F-1 Visa is governed by all applicable federal regulations.

As an F-1 student, you may be eligible for admission to an associate degree program or the English Language Institute.

International (F-1) Student Admission Deadline Dates:

All required documents for F-1 admission to HFC must be submitted by the deadlines listed below:

F-1 Student transferring to HFC from another U.S. Institution:

  • Fall: July 15
  • Winter: December 1
  • Summer: March 1

Application Steps for International (F-1) Transfer Students

Apply to HFC

Complete the HFC online application:

  • In the “Demographics” section, select “No” for both the U.S. citizen and Green Card holder questions.
  • Select “Yes” for the question: “Do you plan to attend HFC on an F-1 student visa?”
  • The name on your application and all supporting documents must match the name on your passport exactly.

Show Proficiency in English

You can meet the English proficiency requirement in one of the following ways:

  1. Transfer College Credit Transfer a college-level English course equivalent to HFC's ENG-131, Introduction to College Writing. Request that an official transcript be sent from your institution to HFC.

  2. Submit an English proficiency score For admission to our English Language Institute, please provide one of the following minimum scores:

For admission to an associate degree program, please provide one of the following minimum scores:

Proficiency test results must be no more than two (2) years old. Results must be sent directly from the testing agency to HFC by mail or email.

Note: Regardless of any proficiency test submitted for admission, all applicants must take the HFC English Placement Test, unless they have transferred a college-level English composition course.

Provide Transcripts

Proof can be met by providing one of the following:

Provide Proof of Financial Responsibility

You must provide all of the following:

Full-time students must show at least $30,000 USD annually. You must also show an additional $10,000 USD for an accompanying spouse and $5,000 USD for each child.

Student Information

You must provide all of the following:

  • Completed Student Information Form. Please ensure your full international address is included on the form.\
  • Copy of passport, showing your name, photo, passport number, and expiration date. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your your date of entry into the U.S.
  • Copy of F-1 visa page or I-797 Approval Notice (Change of status to F-1)
  • Copy of current I-20
  • Copy of most recent I-94

If you have dependents (F-2 visa/status):

  • For a spouse: copy of spouse's passport and copy of marriage certificate, with certified English translation if applicable.
  • For a child: copy of child passport and a copy of birth certificate, with certified English translation if applicable.
  • Additional financial requirements apply for dependents. See the Financial Responsibility section for more information.

Transfer Clearance Form

Complete section 1 of the Transfer Clearance Form and request that the International Student Advisor (DSO) at your current institution complete section 2.

After all required admission documents have been received and an admission letter has been issued, initiate the SEVIS transfer process with the current institution.
