Tutoring with Learning Lab tutors and HFC instructors is offered through a combination of appointments and walk-in availability. You may sign up for a 30-minute appointment.
NetTutor is always available for online tutoring: 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. You can access NetTutor through HFC Online (HFC login is required).
What does the Learning Lab offer students?
The Learning Lab offers tutoring, study spaces, academic resources, and relaxation spaces. One highlight is the Bone Room, which is a collection of bones and physical structures to assist students in studying biology, anatomy, and physiology. The Bone Room is inside the Learning Lab (A 200D).
Other resources include:
- Computers and study carrels
- Free printing
- Headphones
- Math and science textbooks
- Calculators
- Group and independent study spaces
HFC Interim Learning Lab Coordinator Tracie Varitek encourages all HFC students to take advantage of the Learning Lab. “Last semester, the Learning Lab saw an increase in students coming in to study and receive academic support. The Learning Lab has proven to be a hub for sharing and learning on campus,” she said. The Learning Lab can provide valuable support for students at all academic levels throughout the entire semester. If you would benefit from support or just a great place to study, come to the Lab as early in the semester as possible, so you can enjoy the full range of services.
One of Varitek’s goals is to create a menu of academic skills workshops to support various classes. Plans are underway to schedule Tests of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) preparation and study skills workshops.
“The Learning Lab is a place students can feel comfortable studying or seeking resources and academic support during their time at HFC,” said Varitek. “We have tutors available for math, science, and general study skills, as well as computer access and printing. The Bone Room is still here for students taking science courses.”
