HFC recently named Dr. Christie-Marie Buck as the new Director of Nursing. She had served in an interim role for several months.

"When the position became available following Trina Moore's retirement, I wasn't actively pursuing a leadership role. However, some of my colleagues encouraged me to consider the opportunity. Having the support and confidence of my colleagues meant a great deal to me. I saw it as a compliment and an opportunity to continue contributing to the nursing program in a new capacity," said Buck.

One goal is to start part-time nursing option for students

As Director of Nursing, Buck oversees the day-to-day operations and administrative functions of HFC's Nursing program, including strategic planning, organization, and program development. She provides leadership in curriculum development, program evaluation, assessment, and continuous improvement to ensure the delivery of high-quality nursing education. Her responsibilities include supervising adjunct nursing faculty, collaborating with HFC’s clinical partners, conducting advisory meetings, and strengthening relationships within the healthcare community.

Buck serves as the College's liaison to the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Through these efforts, Buck supports the continued growth and success of HFC’s Nursing program while preparing future nurses to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare field.

"My biggest goal in this position is to start a part-time nursing track program, which provides opportunities for our community to take nursing classes at HFC. Part-time students would still maintain the ability to work and take care of their families. I've spoken to students who wish to enroll in the program, but they can’t commit to participating every day. They can commit to 1-2 days per week and still be successful," explained Buck.

A more well-rounded educator

Born in Windsor, Ontario, Buck moved to Michigan in 1995. She resides in Farmington Hills with Charles Buck II, her husband of 31 years. They have two adult children.

Buck earned her associate degree in liberal arts and science from Oakland Community College, then transferred to Oakland University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in nursing. She later earned her master’s degree in nursing from Purdue University. In August of 2026, Buck earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in educational leadership from Oakland University.

"I pursued my doctorate because I want to be a more well-rounded educator," said Buck.

She has been a practicing nurse for 12 years.

"I love my patients and interacting with them and their families," she said. "I like being able to talk to them and getting to know them. It’s very heartening to watch them get better and go home."

Connecting with students and building relationships

Since 2017, Buck has taught nursing at the college level. She began her teaching career at Oakland and Dorsey College in Madison Heights. She joined the HFC nursing faculty in 2021 and achieved tenure in 2025.

"One of the things I love most about my role is the opportunity to connect with students," said Buck. "I enjoy walking through the halls, talking with them, and building relationships. Getting to know our students and allowing them to get to know me is incredibly rewarding. Mentoring and supporting them throughout their nursing education is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job. Teaching has always brought me joy, and in this new leadership role, staying connected to students remains very important."

HFC Director of Health, Education, and Human Services Dr. Cristina Bailey has had many opportunities to work with Buck.

"Dr. Christie-Marie Buck is an innovative leader poised to strengthen and improve the HFC Nursing program," said Bailey. "She brings a powerful dual perspective to the role, combining extensive classroom teaching experience with being a practicing nurse."
