Men's basketball wins State Championship; heads to national tourney
The HFC Men's Hawks are MCCAA State Champions for 2026! In the final game at HFC on Feb. 28, the Hawks beat Kalamazoo Valley Community College, 80-79.
The Hawks now move on to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Great Lakes District C Championship tournament March 3-7 at Mott Community College in Flint:
- The Hawks will play a semifinal on March 5 at 9:00 a.m.
- If they win that game, they will play in the District Championship game on March 7 at 11:00 a.m.
- If they win the District Championship, they will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Danville, Illinois. This is a feat the Hawks have accomplished in 4 of the past 5 years.

The HFC Men’s Basketball team won the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference Championship. They finished the regular season with a record of 18-7 (11-3 in conference).
On Feb. 27-28, HFC will host the MCCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament in the Athletic Memorial Building (Building H on the main campus). The tournament will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, with Kalamazoo Valley Community College taking on Mid Michigan College. The winner of this game will play the Hawks in the MCCAA State Championship Final on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m. Cost of admission to both games at HFC is $10.
"We have a tremendous amount of talent this year,” said HFC head coach Chris Shepard. “Our players and assistant coaches deserve all of the credit for us winning the regular season conference title. Our main goal has yet to be obtained – and that’s winning an NJCAA National Championship."
