Sisson hosts “Get Out the Vote” poster show and live discussion
The HFC Sisson Art Gallery (Room F-155) on the first floor of the MacKenzie Fine Arts Center (Building F on the main campus) will present its “Get Out the Vote” student poster show on Tuesday, October 27, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
All Get Out the Vote posters meet the non-partisan requirement. During the poster show, HFC political science instructor Dr. Tony Perry will speak about civic engagement at 4:00 p.m.
This poster show was inspired by the League of Women Voters (LWV) and the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA)'s “Design for Democracy” initiative to increase civic participation through art.
“By creating messages that are more understandable and trustworthy, designers become more vocal citizens and democracy more accessible,” said HFC Department Chair, Fine and Performing Arts Vicki Shepherd. “By advocating for civic engagement through voter education, this project turns design skills and aspirations into tangible actions that can make a difference. Design has always been a part of creating awareness, so it was an easy decision to make this an assignment to raise awareness, as well as offer students an opportunity to work on their design skills."
