Henry Ford College Board of Trustees is accepting applications for Board vacancies
The Henry Ford College (HFC) Board of Trustees is accepting applications from any Dearborn resident, 18 years old or older, who is interested in filling a vacant position on the Board.
On August 11, Board of Trustees Vice Chair Irene Watts announced she was resigning from the Board, effective immediately. Watts has served on the Board since 2021 and has been the Vice Chair since January 2025. She previously served as Secretary to the Board.
On August 18, Board of Trustees member Hussein Berry announced that he was resigning from the Board, effective immediately. Berry served two full terms and one partial term (non-consecutive) on the Board. He served as Chair and other Board officer roles at various times.
The Board has 30 days to fill any vacant seat. The deadline for applications by interested Dearborn residents is Monday, Aug. 25, at 4:00 p.m. Note that HFC Board of Trustees also serves as the Board of Education for the Dearborn Public Schools.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and registered voters over the age of 18 who live in the Dearborn Public School district, which covers the majority of Dearborn and a section of Dearborn Heights.
To apply for the vacancy, please complete the official Google form and attach a cover letter and three references. You also need to email your résumé to communications@dearbornschools.org.
Printed copies of the required application materials may also be submitted in person by bringing them to the Administrative Service Center, 18700 Audette St. in Dearborn. The building is open between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. The Aug. 25 deadline applies to all applications, whether online or in person.
The Board of Trustees sets policy and budget for HFC, hires and evaluates both the HFC president and the Dearborn Public Schools superintendent, approves union contracts and pay scales, and oversees construction and other major building issues. Trustees are not directly involved in the day-to-day operations of the College or the school district.
The Board of Trustees generally meets twice a month – once for the College and once for the school district. Trustees serve on various committees, which generally meet before the regular board meetings. Special meetings also may be held throughout the year at the Trustees’ discretion.
