Jennifer Chapman promoted to HFC Benefits Manager
During Summer 2025, Jennifer Chapman was promoted to Benefits Manager in Human Resources.
Chapman reports to HFC Assistant Director of Total Rewards Tiffany Webster, who is also new to her position. Previously, Chapman served as HR Generalist for more than two years.
“I assisted the former benefits manager (Webster) in planning benefits fairs, wellness events, and answering questions about open enrollment and various benefits-related questions,” said Chapman. “When the Benefits position opened earlier this year, it was a natural progression for me. I have been interested in benefits and wellness for a long time.”
Her duties include managing all aspects of HFC’s health and wellness benefit programs, including design, implementation, communication, audit, and administration. Chapman also collaborates with benefits brokers, ensures benefit vendors comply with plan summaries, and processes benefits according to plan designs. She is also responsible for the day-to-day operation of group benefits, including:
- Group health
- Dental
- Vision
- FMLA
- Short-term disability
- Long-term disability
- Workers’ compensation
- Life insurance
- Accidental death insurance
- Flexible and health spending accounts
- Retirement
- Employee Assistance programs
Enjoys seeing students matriculate, grow, and graduate
A lifelong Detroiter, Chapman has a young daughter. An alumna of Cass Technical High School, Chapman earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She also completed some coursework at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
After working in health care for 10 years, Chapman wanted a career change and eventually found her way to higher education. She was attracted to the field after positive experiences at U-M, where she completed a work study program in admissions.
“I enjoy seeing students matriculate, grow, and graduate,” she said. “It’s rewarding to see some of them come back after graduation to work at the College. Watching colleagues grow and get promoted within the organization is inspiring and motivating. Education is an upbeat environment to work in.”
Chapman first joined HFC in 2018 as a Special Assistant to then-Vice President of Strategy and Information, Becky Chadwick. When Chadwick left the College that summer, Chapman reported to Dr. Lori Gonko, Vice President of Strategy and Human Resources, who has since become HFC’s Interim President.
Chapman switched gears and became an HR Generalist in late 2022. She is grateful to work at the College and has great admiration for her colleagues.
“The people are what make this place great,” she said. “There is a genuine disposition of the people here at HFC that cannot be duplicated. In my time here, I have met many ‘lifers’ — people who have spent the greater amount of their careers here. That is no mistake. They find joy in being at the College. I feel the same. It is great to work where you feel connected and are making a difference. This is the only place I’ve worked where I have so many people who are happy to help.”
