January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month

January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month. HFC will host a human trafficking awareness session on Thursday, January 18, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Michael Berry Amphitheater on the first floor of the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC) (Building L on the main campus).

This awareness session will educate you about the harrowing reality of human trafficking, its prevalence in our community, signs of human trafficking, and what you can do to help. Simone Calvas of Corewell Health will facilitate the session. Calvas is a Board Member of Families Against Narcotics (FAN) in Clinton Township and a member of the Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force Downriver Anti-Trafficking Coalition in Taylor.

“We are excited to have this training to educate our HFC community on human trafficking,” said HFC Supervisor, Student Conduct and Compliance Director/Student Deputy Title IX Coordinator Glenn Richards. “Many people are not aware of the different types of human trafficking or how to help those who may have been trafficked.”

No registration is required. This awareness session is free and open to the public. For questions or more information, contact Richards at 313-845-6315 or grrichards2@hfcc.edu.
