The Henry Ford College baseball team had a good year on the mound, at the plate, and in the field.

The HFC baseball team took second in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference for the 2022-23 season with a record of 18-7. The team’s overall record was 27-17.

The Hawks defeated No. 3 seed Jackson College 2-1 in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XII Baseball Championships May 11-12 to advance the NJCAA Great Lakes Regional Finals May 18-20, where they played No. 1 seed Kellogg Community College in a two-game tournament. The Hawks defeated KCC 3-2 in the first game but lost 8-5 in the second game.

“We only had four hits that game, but one of them was a triple by Thomas Potcova that gave us the lead,” explained Coach Mike Abney. “A couple of errors on our part gave them the lead midway through the game, which allowed KCC to take the lead. They also had strong pitching performances from three of their pitchers that helped them hold onto the lead.”

Despite losing to KCC in the finals, Abney is proud of his team. This is the second consecutive year the Hawks have made it to the finals.

“We had a solid year offensively, defensively, and on the mound. But the goal every year is to make it to the World Series,” said Abney. “I'll take this year as the next step on our mission to be the best team in Michigan!"
