HFC’s Black Male and Quintessential Unique Essence of Ebony Necessary Sisters (QUEENS) Focus Group (BMQFG) will begin weekly meetings for the Fall 2022 Semester on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from noon to 2:00 p.m. in Room N-011, which is located in the basement of the Campus Safety Building (Bldg. N on the main campus).

This is the first semester since the pandemic BMQFG will meet in-person. The meetings, which will be held every Wednesday until Dec. 14 (unless otherwise noted), will be hybrid in-person and online. The BMQFG Fall 2022 meeting schedule is:

  • Sept. 14, 21, 28
  • Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26
  • Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
  • Dec. 7, 14

Please register to attend the Zoom meetings.

Three faculty advisors lead BMQFG: Dr. Kalvin DaRonne Harvell, Chardin Claybourne, and Dr. Courtney Aleise Matthews. The group's purpose is to challenge and change the accepted narrative regarding Black academic success. It provides an atmosphere in which students are comfortable, and through strength, can learn to deal with discomfiture. It exposes them to opportunities within and outside HFC to help them grow academically and professionally.

In addition to its regular meetings, BMQFG also has two special events scheduled for the semester, including:

"The Black Male and QUEENS Focus Group is here to provide a safe space for student engagement and to offer support for all student questions and concerns,” said Claybourne. “We are excited to begin meeting with students in-person again for the first time in a long time this semester.”

All HFC students are welcome and invited to attend BMQFG meetings.

For questions or more information, contact Harvell at kharvell@hfcc.edu, Claybourne at cclaybourne@hfcc.edu, or Matthews at cahenderson2@hfcc.edu.
