Apply for the Mellon Research Scholar Fellowship by Oct. 4

As part of the HFC and University of Michigan Ann Arbor's Transfer Bridges to the Humanities@Michigan program, the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) is partnering with HFC to create opportunities for scholarly work by undergraduates. This is funded, in part, by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The Mellon Research Scholar Fellowship (MRSF) is a 20-week paid opportunity for HFC students interested in the humanities and relevant social sciences. The MRSF runs from Oct. 11, 2021 to April 20, 2022.

Apply for the Fellowship by Oct. 4

Work on a year-long research project with U-M faculty

Research fellows receive a $1,000-$2,500 stipend per semester for their participation in the program, depending on hours worked per week (between 6 and 12). The maximum stipend amount is $5,000 for the academic year.

Students will perform part-time research with U-M faculty on a year-long project, then present results to a forum of their peers in UROP's Spring Symposium. Projects range from archaeology and linguistics to world politics and journalism. The final portion of the program is a biweekly seminar on research methods and professional development, providing skills useful to their studies and to daily life.

In recent semesters, Henry Ford Early College (HFEC) alumna Yasmeen Berry, HFC alumna Alanna Grace-Marie Schwartz, and HFC alumna Braneisha Lloyd all have had successful experiences with the MSRF. Many other HFC students have participated and excelled through UROP.

For questions or more information about UROP and/or the MRSF, contact UROP Program Coordinator Jeremy Ray at jeprera@umich.edu.
