The Dearborn Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will host the “Big Band Gala at the Pavilion” – a black-tie fundraising event – at the Henry Ford College (HFC) Student & Culinary Services Center (Building M on the main campus) on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 6-11:30 p.m.

The HFC Big Band, under the direction of Rick L. Goward, and Karen Newman, who performs the National Anthem at Detroit Red Wings home games, will provide music for this event. Pamela Preczewski and Alex Young of the DanceSport Academy of Michigan in Dearborn will demonstrate several dances throughout the evening.

“I’m happy that the Big Band is returning to once again work with Gloria Nycek on this outstanding fundraising event for our own (DSO). The Symphony inspires and uplifts its audiences by presenting high caliber, engaging performances under the leadership of renowned music director Kypros Markou. It is truly a cultural cornerstone in Dearborn,” said Goward.

This gala is sponsored by Mary and Don Kosch and the Dearborn Sausage Co. It begins at 6 p.m. with a martini bar, compliments of Merchant’s Fine Wine in Dearborn and the Rusted Crow Distillery in Dearborn Heights. Dinner, catered by Park Place in Dearborn, begins at 7 p.m. Wine, compliments of Westborn Market in Dearborn, will be served with dinner.

“I want to thank HFC, Rick Goward, the members of the Big Band, Karen Newman, the DanceSport Academy, and all the people attending the ‘Big Band Gala at the Pavilion’ event for their ongoing and tireless support of the DSO. Their efforts and dedication are the reasons why great music comes alive in our community,” said Gloria Nycek, who chaired this event.

Reservations are required. Tickets cost $175 per person. To make reservations and/or for further information, call the Symphony at 313-565-2424 or visit dearbornsymphony.org.
