Assisted Learning Services

Providing equal access for all students with disabilities.

Accommodation Request Form

Assisted Learning Services is dedicated to providing Henry Ford College students with equal access to educational programs, services, activities, and facilities throughout the College. Numerous accommodations are available for students with disabilities, based on the unique needs of the individual.

Each student request will be evaluated on an individual basis. There are many opportunities to enable students to have equal access to educational programs. In some cases, extended time to complete tests/quizzes in a distraction-reduced environment may assist students. In other cases, the use of an American Sign Language Interpreter, installation of text-to-speech software on classroom computers, or access to books in alternate formats may be appropriate accommodations.

Assisted Learning Services strives to foster the dignity and worth of all individuals. If you are requesting a specific type of accommodation, please let us know and we will evaluate that request in determining how best to support you.

Getting started in the accommodation process

HFC current and incoming students must self-identify as (tell us that you are) a student with a disability. Schedule an appointment with the ALS counselor, and you will receive guidance on submitting any disability documentation to support your accommodation request.

The first appointment you will schedule with the Assisted Learning Services department is to determine your eligibility for accommodations. You may also receive other administrative assistance during your first appointment.

When arriving for your appointment, bring your written documentation of your disability (exceptions may be made if you have a permanent, visible handicap). Your initial appointment is normally scheduled for one hour.

Acceptable sources for written documentation of a disability include, but are not limited to:

  • Medical doctors
  • Psychologists
  • Social workers
  • Teachers and educators
  • Michigan Jobs Commission
  • Other rehabilitation agencies

We encourage you to see an Assisted Learning Services professional whenever you need to do so. After the initial session to determine your eligibility for accommodations, follow-up sessions are generally scheduled for 30 minutes.
