Four HFC wrestlers compete in national championships
Four members of the HFC Wrestling team have qualified to compete at the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Championships in Council, Bluffs IA the weekend of March 6-7.
These four wrestlers are:
- Vicente Navarro (133 lbs.), of Lincoln Park.
- Luke Gitens (141 lbs.), of Rochester.
- Elan Bekker (157 lbs.), of West Bloomfield.
- Jayden Charleston (285 lbs.), of Westland.
“It is definitely an exciting time in Hawks Athletics!” said HFC Associate Athletic Director Kirk Bradley. “Coach Mackenzie and his staff have worked incredibly hard to prepare these athletes for this opportunity. We are proud to have them represent HFC on a national level.”
Coach Grant MacKenzie expressed his pride in his athletes.
"This is a standard I encourage every wrestler on our roster to strive for,” said MacKenzie. “We’ve built a competitive schedule specifically to sharpen our team for the postseason. I also want to credit assistant coaches and former outstanding Hawks wrestlers Diante Taylor and Jager Kwiatkowski, for their outstanding work. They’ve done an incredible job mentoring each athlete and maintaining a high standard."
