Due to licensing limitations, tickets are available only to HFC students and employees.
The second film in the new Movies at the MacKenzie series, Train to Busan will play in the Adray Auditorium (Room F-100) in the MacKenzie Fine Arts Center (Building F on the main campus) on Tuesday, October 20, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.
Disney’s The Skeleton Dance, a 1929 animated comedy horror short, and How to be Alone, a 2016 short Israeli student film, will be the curtain raisers before the main event.
The screening is free for the HFC community by registering for free tickets at the link above. The free film series is a collaboration between the Film and Media Club, the Evergreen Theatrical Society, Student Activities, Media Communication Arts, and HFC Theatre.
"We've been making some great improvements to the MacKenzie Fine Arts Center," said HFC Director of Theatre Dr. John-Michael Sefel. "Our newly upgraded projection capabilities and sound in the Adray Auditorium are among them."
Commuters vs. the walking dead
The majority of Train to Busan occurs on a KTX (high-speed train) from Seoul to Busan as a zombie apocalypse breaks out and threatens the safety of the passengers. The passengers must band together to battle the zombies.
Directed by Yeon Sang-ho (The King of Pigs), Train to Busan was a major commercial and critical success, grossing just under $100 million worldwide. It became the highest-grossing Korean film in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. In South Korea, it was the highest-grossing film of 2016. Train to Busan spawned a franchise with an American in development.
Given the graphic nature of Train to Busan, viewer discretion is advised.
"As a commuter campus, it's on all of us to think about ways to foster community and student life," said Sefel. "This is just one of many ways we're working to make sure our campus feels like more than just a place to attend class."
Concessions
There will be no concessions for sale at Train to Busan. We need to comply with the "no food or drinks other than water/basic granola bars for health needs" rule in the Adray.
There are vending machines immediately outside of the Adray that sell chips, candy, non-alcoholic beverages, and more. There is also a free hydration station to refill your water bottles. You can refresh yourselves before or after the screening.
Suggest a movie
Students: If you have a movie that you think would be a good fit for the free film series – something that would be popular and entertaining for the majority of our student population – keep your eyes open for the "movie suggestions!" online form that will be available in the coming weeks.
Faculty: If you have a film that you'd like you show in the Adray that is relevant to your class or other specialized area but not necessarily as part of our "whole campus entertainment" concept (i.e., documentaries, educational films, etc.), contact HFC Arts Coordinator and Technical Director Seth Amadei below.
