Getting involved on your campus can be a core way to enhance your education, growth, and sense of belonging.

“College is more than attending classes. We encourage all students to become active in the campus community, whether it’s volunteering, supporting your professional growth, participating in an activity, or joining a student club,” said HFC Director of Student Activities Dr. Cassandra Fluker.

HFC Student Activities is in the John McDonald Student and Culinary Arts Center (Building M on the main campus, M-105) and supports more than 40 student organizations plus dozens of activities for students of any age or life experience. The majority of the student activity programs are in-person, but some virtual activities are available.

“Student Activities keeps you involved and engaged and can contribute to your growth and satisfaction as a student,” said Fluker. “Our work is based on the philosophy that co-curricular involvement helps you become a well-rounded, responsible individual throughout your life. Student Activities seeks to provide a variety of learning opportunities for you outside the classroom that assist with and complement your intellectual, personal, professional, social, and leadership development.”

Student clubs: a great way to participate in shared interests

Whether you are interested in community service, honing your leadership skills, getting extra experience related to your academic program, or just making friends and having fun, you'll find a variety of clubs at HFC.

Complete the Club Interest Form to indicate which clubs interest you.

You may also form a new club if your area of interest does not have a club. Student Activities manages the policies and procedures regarding recognition and operation of student clubs at HFC. To be recognized by the College, prospective student clubs should have:

  • At least 10 currently enrolled student members who will be active with the club.
  • A membership roster listing names, student ID numbers, Hawkmail addresses, and phone numbers.
  • Club officers (president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, etc.).
  • A club advisor (a full-time or part-time HFC faculty or staff member).
  • A constitution and bylaws (we can provide examples if you need help with this).
  • Constitution signed by the club president and club advisor.
  • A list of potential activities sponsored by the club.

You may submit these completed documents to Student Activities. The Director of Student Activities and the Vice President of Student Affairs will review your documents. They will take the following items into consideration:

  • The purpose of your club and its alignment with the HFC mission and student-related policies.
  • Whether your club demonstrates viability and effectiveness in fulfilling its constitution and intended purpose, including submitting meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Whether your membership has the potential to grow and sustain the club for more than one year.
  • Whether your constitution states that every currently enrolled student at HFC is welcome to join your club.

The Director of Student Activities will notify your club president and club advisor of the status of your application.

Although HFC’s student organizations have their own individual mission, we encourage each one to collaborate and consider activities that pertain to current world affairs, such as social injustice and mental health, and other national/world issues that affect the student body at HFC.
