HFC will host the “Protecting Your Small Business” workshop on Tuesday, November 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:00 p.m.) in the HFC Small Business and Entrepreneurship Hub (Room E-146) on the first floor of the Technology Building (Building E on the main campus).

Startup and patent attorney Joseph R. Morrison, Jr. of Barnes & Thornburg, LLP, who is a partner in the Ann Arbor-based law firm, will lead this workshop, giving a presentation on the legal essentials every entrepreneur and small business owner needs to know to protect their business.

Morrison is an alumnus of the University of Richmond Robins School of Business and the University of Michigan Law School, graduating from both magna cum laude. He is the host of Morrison in the Morning, a monthly virtual series that gives practical legal insights and guidance for Michigan startup founders, including:

  • Strategic partnerships, pilots, and structuring business deals
  • Intellectual property (IP) licensing and ownership basics
  • Insurance basics, product liability, and service risk management
  • Avoiding common legal pitfalls and founder exposure gaps

"This event provides an opportunity to learn from a nationally recognized attorney like Joe Morrison about the legal steps entrepreneurs can take to protect their businesses as they launch and grow," said HFC business instructor MariAnn Apley.

This workshop is free and open to the public. A light dinner will be provided. Please register at the link above.
