Sustainable HFC is encouraging the College community (students, student organizations, faculty, and staff) to showcase your ideas on sustainability based on your academic discipline and expertise in the Interdisciplinary Sustainability Challenge.

Submissions are due by Friday, October 2, which is also the birthday of the world-renowned civil rights leader Mahatma Ghandi. Projects will be showcased in the atrium on the first floor of the Health Sciences Education Center (Building G on the main campus) the week of October 5-9. A cash prize and certificate from Sustainable HFC will be awarded to the best projects.

Download and fill out the Interdisciplinary Sustainability Challenge guidelines today. HFC Pre-Education Program Director Dr. Carolyn Casale and HFC mathematics instructor John Patrick are the co-chairs. The project is co-sponsored by Sustainable HFC Committee Chair Dr. Mary Parekunnel.

“The project is meant to promote sustainability ideas across different disciplines,” said Casale. “I was inspired by my students who read Michigan Native American books and highlight the importance of Michigan’s indigenous populations' connection to nature.”

Added Patrick: “The project emphasizes the fact that our relationship with the natural world goes beyond the field of environmental science. It relates to biology, math, art, and every other discipline at HFC.”
