HFC and DDOT partner on 12-week Heavy Duty Transit Mechanic program

The 12-week Heavy Duty Transit Mechanic pre-apprentice training program begins on March 23.
HFC and the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) are partnering on a Heavy Duty Transit Mechanic pre-apprentice training program in the automotive labs of the HFC Technology Building (Building E on the main campus), which runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for 12 weeks.
- The first session begins Monday, March 23.
- The second session begins Monday, May 18.
This hands-on training program prepares you for a job working on DDOT buses and other heavy-duty diesel equipment. The skills are transferable to other heavy-duty equipment suppliers. Recognized with a Michigan Apprenticeship Readiness Certificate (MARC) Level II Endorsement, this program meets high-quality standards for apprenticeship readiness in Michigan.
You will gain the following:

Requirements
Screening requirements include:
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Be CDL-B eligible to obtain the necessary Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit.
- A valid Michigan driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Some mechanical experience.
- Pass all required pre-employment screenings, including a criminal background check, an FTA-compliant drug screening (no drugs in your system), a physical examination, and a motor vehicle record review.
