Free household hazardous waste collection day for Wayne County residents

Household hazardous waste products. Gasoline container, propane gas cylinder tank, battery, and plastic chemical solvent container.

HFC will host a free household hazardous waste collection day on Saturday, June 27, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in parking lots 7, 8, and 9 in the southwestern section of the HFC main campus.

Wayne County residents eligible

You will need to provide proof of Wayne County residency, including a current government-provided photo ID with address or similar documentation.

Acceptable materials

Materials that will be accepted include:

  • Household paints, stains, dyes
  • Floor care items, floor wax, carpet cleaner
  • Furniture polish, bathroom cleaners, stain removers, solvents
  • Pharmaceutical waste (Non-controlled substances only. Prescription medications are not eligible.)
  • Nail polish, glue
  • Lawn and garden chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers
  • Antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline
  • Automotive batteries, dry cell batteries
  • Fluorescent bulbs (all types)
  • Fire extinguishers, smoke detectors
  • Mercury thermometers, thermostats, elemental mercury, electronics recycling
  • Computer CPUs, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice
  • TVs, cell phones, fax machines, copiers

These materials should be labeled danger, warning, caution, corrosive, or flammable. They should not go in your regular trash.

Prohibited materials

Materials that will not be accepted include:

  • Commercial waste
  • Industrial waste
  • Radioactive material
  • Explosives
  • Ammunition
  • 55-gallon drums
  • Household trash
  • Household appliances, including refrigerators, microwaves, other household appliances, etc.
  • Tires
  • Yard waste
  • Roofing shingles
  • Concrete
  • Unknown/unlabeled waste materials
