Members of the HFC men's basketball team read to elementary students in Detroit as part of the "Read to Succeed" initiative.

In late April, members of the HFC men’s basketball team proudly participated in the “Read to Succeed” program, where they read to students in the Detroit Public Schools Community District.

“Read to Succeed” is a national initiative that promotes literacy and academic achievement among youth. As part of this initiative, the Hawks visited Emerson Elementary-Middle School and Dossin Elementary-Middle School, where they read to more than 120 students across seven classrooms.

Their involvement encouraged a love of reading and fostered positive student-athlete engagement and strengthened HFC’s community connections. It was unclear who enjoyed themselves more – the students or the Hawks!

“Participating in the ‘Read to Succeed’ event was a rewarding experience for our team,” said HFC Associate Director of Athletics Kirk Bradley. “While we were there to inspire the kids, it turned out that we gained just as much from the experience. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of giving back and how we can continue to grow as individuals by positively influencing others.”
