T he men's Hawks basketball team completed an excitement-filled Great Lakes District B championship by defeating the #1 team, Kalamazoo Valley, 77-73 on Saturday, March 8. The victory sends the Hawks to the national championship tournament in Danville, Illinois.

The tournament victory wasn't the only accolade of the last week. Other awards and honors:

  • Coach Chris Shepard earned Coach of the Year honors
  • Davon Smith-Johnson was named tournament MVP
  • Omar Zeigler and Gerald Dottin III were named to the All-Tournament Team
  • Team record for the season is 23-7

Don't miss the national championship tournament

The NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship will start Monday, March 17 and will conclude with the championship game Saturday, March 22. The double elimination tournament tests the athletes’ teamwork, skill, and endurance. The Hawks are no strangers to the national tournament, and they hope to bring home the National Championship trophy this year.

Seedings for the tournament will be announced at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 11 on the NJCAA Network.

After the seedings and game times are announced, we'll share the Hawks first game time and opponent, as well as ticket information for those who want to attend the tournament in person.

On-campus watch parties

Share in the excitement of the Hawks' journey in the national tourney! For those who can't go to Danville, HFC will host a watch party in several locations (Welcome Center, Rosenau Rooms of the L Building).

All community members are invited! We encourage alumni and local Hawks fans to join students, staff, and faculty for the on-campus watch parties.
