HFC welcomes Jaylyn Haygood to MCTS team

Release Date
Headshot of Jaylyn Haygood

Jaylyn “Jay” Haygood worked temporarily in Admissions and Recruiting to help out during a busy time. She liked the College so much that she is now an Administrative Assistant in the School of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Professional Development (BEPD).

“Shortly after I left Admissions and Recruiting, Terri Hagen from HR reached out to me about the administrative opening in BEPD. It was an opportunity to start my career at the College in an official way,” said Haygood.

Henry Ford Middle College Trade School Coordinator Ledgra Johnson is her supervisor. Haygood’s duties include:

  • Registering students in the Middle College
  • Guiding high school students who want to pursue professional trades
  • Serving as the liaison between high school personnel and Middle College administration
  • Being the first face people see when coming to the M-TEC Building on the East Campus
  • Assisting Johnson with various events

“Jay has been an incredible asset, stepping in during a time of transition with dedication and efficiency,” said Johnson. “We are truly grateful to have her on our team.”

Helping students get a jump start on their education

A lifelong Detroiter, Haygood is the eldest of two daughters. She is a graduate of Renaissance High School and Oakland University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in creative writing.

“I pursued creative writing because I wanted to see more stories that represented people like me. I wanted to write stories with people who have the same identity. I wrote a lot when I was a child. I’ve always loved movies and TV as well, so I went into screenwriting,” she explained.

Haygood always wanted to work in higher education. Prior to coming to HFC, she worked in retail for several years.

“When I was an undergrad, I worked at Oakland in its Gender and Sexuality Center as a receptionist. I still enjoy this kind of work years later at HFC,” she said. “I like seeing high school students succeed here at the College. It’s nice to see I’m aiding these young people in getting a head start in their college education.”
