T he Henry Ford College (HFC) Board of Trustees announced at its Board of Education meeting on October 13 that it has unanimously selected Academic Search to support its national search for a permanent president of the College. (The HFC Board of Trustees also serves as the Board of Education for the Dearborn Public Schools.)

The Board’s Presidential Search Ad Hoc Committee, comprising Chair Adel Mozip, Vice Chair Mary Petlichkoff, and Secretary Amer Zahr, interviewed multiple national search firms before recommending Academic Search, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C.

“The rationale for choosing Academic Search is that they are well prepared, personable, and have a solid history of working with community colleges in hiring their leaders,” said Board Chair Adel Mozip.

The Board will begin its work with Academic Search immediately. Next steps will be to establish a Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC), which will comprise members of the College and the local community to help lead the search process. The primary role of the PSAC, supported by Academic Search, will be to forward finalists to the Board for consideration as the permanent College president. The Board will select the president.

The College has launched a Presidential Search website to provide ongoing updates, information about the Presidential Search Advisory Committee, the Position Profile, the nomination and application process, and College information and resources. This website will be an official source of information about the search.

The Board of Trustees sets policy and budget for HFC, hires and evaluates both the HFC president and the Dearborn Public Schools superintendent, approves union contracts and pay scales, and oversees construction and other major building issues. Trustees are not directly involved in the day-to-day operations of the College or the school district.

The Board of Trustees generally meets twice a month – once for the College and once for the district. To learn more about Board operations and to look through agendas and presentations, visit the Board of Trustees website.
