Hawk Hub: A student-led program for students to help students

Henry Ford College Student Council members sitting at a table with helpful handouts for students.

Effective Wednesday, March 20, HFC will launch a pilot program called the Hawk Hub on the first floor of the Reuther Liberal Arts Building (Building K on the main campus), just outside the Honors Hub (Room K-103). The Hawk Hub will run on Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during the semester.

The Hawk Hub is a student-led program for students to help students. The Hawk Hub student volunteers, who primarily comprise students in the Henry Ford II Honors Program and the Student Council, will be available to answer questions from the perspective of a current student attending HFC. Enrollment Services team members will also be on hand if in-depth help is needed.

In support of the goals for the College’s Strategic Plan, HFC Vice President of Student Affairs Holly Diamond and HFC Assistant Director of Enrollment Services, Assessment, and Orientation Nikole Ford-Kondraciuk met with Student Council leaders and advisor Vicki Shepherd over several months to listen to ideas and concerns from the student body.

The result was the Hawk Hub.

Another option for student support

“The purpose of the Hawk Hub is to create a space where students can help one another navigate issues and questions . This idea came from Student Council members who are passionate about helping other students succeed. The students believe it may be easier for some students to approach another student for help about non-technical or non-complex issues,” explained Ford-Kondraciuk. “Our Enrollment Services One Stop (Welcome Center) team will be nearby to support this effort. We will help provide direction as needed. We also recognize that taking our services to the Liberal Arts Building allows us to meet students near their classes and remind them that their one-stop team is here to help.”

Added Diamond: “We will assess the experience this semester and make improvements based upon the data and feedback. Our hope is to expand this initiative for the Fall 2024 semester and beyond.”
