You are invited to “Circle of Refuge” winter Choral concert
The HFC Music Department will perform a choral concert called “Circle of Refuge” on Thursday, December 5, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Adray Auditorium (Room F-100) in the MacKenzie Fine Arts Center (Building F on the main campus).
The HFC Chorus and Blue Fusion will perform an eclectic variety of music, including folk, liturgical, contemporary, and holiday songs. Director of the HFC Chorus Amy Saari will conduct the concert, accompanied by musician David Waggoner.
Gathering with family and friends creates a circle of refuge
Some of the songs the two music ensembles will perform:
- “African Noel” by Andre Thomas
- “Thou Lord, Our Refuge” by Felix Mendelssohn (which was recently performed during HFC’s recent production of Dear Harvey)
- “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” by Kim Gannon and Walter Kent and recorded in 1943 by Hollywood legend Bing Crosby
- “Joyful, Joyful” from 1993’s Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (starring Whoopi Goldberg), arranged by Mervyn Warren and adapted by Roger Emerson
- “Dream” by Johnny Mercer
"Gathering with family and friends for celebration creates a circle of refuge for when seasons change and yearly cycles come to an end. Our concert theme and title is ‘Circle of Refuge,’” explained Saari. “Several pieces on our program could serve as a centerpiece, but the biggest one has to be 'Thou Lord Our Refuge,’ a piece recorded by the HFC Chorus for the theatre program’s production of Dear Harvey. Blue Fusion will also be featured on the program, singing an a cappella arrangement of 'I'll Be Home for Christmas.' I hope the entire program will show how refuge can be created when we gather together for it."
This concert is free and open to the public. For questions or more information, contact Saari at asaari@hfcc.edu.
