Have you completed your accessibility training?

Computer keyboard with an accessibility green key.

HFC is required to train all staff and faculty every year regarding our Electronic Information Technology Policy and individual responsibilities.

All employees who create digital content must complete this training each year. We are required to provide proof that you have completed the training.

Not sure if you completed this training?

If you are not sure whether you completed the training, login to Accessibility 101 - 2023/2024 Compliance. If you see this message, you will know you completed the training:

If you don't remember the training, you can always review this very important training! You don't have to re-take the quiz if you passed.

Why does this training matter?

Accessibility is critical for student success -- for all students. Accessibility is not just about assisting people with impairments or disabilities. It is also very important to HFC as a Welcoming College. We are required by law to make sure all our technology is accessible to everyone.

It is each employee's responsibility to incorporate e-Accessibility practices and techniques into the following materials, if you are a faculty or staff member who:

  • Creates or updates websites affiliated with an HFC activity.
  • Posts electronic word-processing documents, electronic presentations, spreadsheets, or audio/video files to the College website or learning management system, or in any other electronic format such as email.
  • Purchases or develops any type of software or application for College use.
  • Students, staff, faculty and other members of the community may report accessibility violations to the College via the Accessibility Complaint Form and the Office of Civil Rights.

How to complete the required training

All faculty and staff will be required to complete an Introduction to Accessibility module online, including a short quiz. The session should take approximately 20 minutes. The training course automatically appears in your HFC Online/Moodle dashboard, effective Monday, March 13.

To access training:

  1. Go to Accessibility 101 - 2023/2024 Compliance in HFC Online (Moodle).
  2. Read through the module and take the quiz.
  3. Once you have passed the quiz at the end of the module, you have completed the required portion of training.

Staff/Administrators: Please contact Rachel Ford (raford3@hfcc.edu) if you have any issues getting started in the course or have questions about training.

Faculty: Please contact Victoria Bessette (bessette@hfcc.edu) if you have any issues getting started in the course or have questions about training.

Timeline

We strongly recommend that you complete the training as soon as possible. The deadline will be Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023.

Because all employees are required to complete this training annually, we will send reminders each year with a link to the training and the quiz.

Customized training and help available all year

Additional training materials are available on topics such as Creating Accessible Word Documents, PowerPoints, Excel Spreadsheets, and more in the Accessibility OneDrive.

These materials will help you become efficient and effective in creating accessible content for all audiences. Drop-in training for staff is also available with Ford.

Brief, non-technical resources to help you understand specific accessibility topics are added throughout the year in the HFC Accessibility SharePoint website. Check out the recent posts on usability!
