A free Wellness Series begins September 29 to promote students’ mental well-being. These online seminars begin Wednesday, Sept. 29. The free series for HFC students is sponsored by Student Activities.

You may attend any or all sessions that interest you. They are separate events and do not require that you attend all sessions.

Session One: Social and Emotional Learning and Higher Education

This seminar is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 3:00 p.m. focusing on:

  • Self-awareness
  • How to identify and manage emotions
  • How to build strong and healthy relationships with peers in the digital world

The facilitator is Royce Kinniebrew, the president of the The Kinniebrew Group, a Detroit-based educational consulting organization that provides cultural sensitivity training for K-12 schools, colleges, universities, businesses, and government. A native Detroiter, Kinniebrew is also an author and educator. Please register to attend this presentation.

Session Two: Observing Our Thoughts

Observing Our Thoughts is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 2:00 p.m. This workshop is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and will explain the fundamentals of how thoughts shape anxiety. It will address:

  • What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
  • What can we learn from it in terms of anxiety?
  • How can it be used to help us become more aware of thinking traps?

You will learn coping tools that you can use right away to help limit the anxiety that may of us experience. The facilitator is Andrika Rook, a clinical therapist at Shift Collab in Toronto.

Session Three: Limiting Our Inner Critic

Limiting Our Inner Critic is Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 2:00 p.m. While perfectionism is common among ambitious people, it often leads to high rates of anxiety, procrastination, stress, and lack of confidence. This workshop will help you challenge your inner critic, including such topics as:

  • How to recognize when perfectionism is taking over
  • Strategies to challenge this type of thinking
  • Coping tools to reduce anxiety and boost performance

The facilitator is Wayne Gray, a therapist at Shift Collab in Toronto. Please register to attend this workshop.
