Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
The 29th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day of Service will be held on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022.
The MLK Day of Service is a one-day outreach activity that commemorates the philosophy and legacy of the late civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This event is a collaborative effort between HFC and the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Students, faculty, and staff from both educational institutions will volunteer their time to help local agencies through various projects.
For 2022, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Volunteer in-person at a local non-profit
- Volunteer in-person on the HFC campus
- Volunteer in-person on the UM-Dearborn campus
- Volunteer remotely from their home

- Forgotten Harvest
- Gleaners Community Food Bank
In-person on the HFC campus
- Food distribution
In-person on the UM-Dearborn campus
- Arts & Scraps
- Kids Against Hunger
- Fleece blanket-making
- Knitting hats and scarves
At-home projects (all materials for these projects must be provided by the volunteers)
- Fleece blanket-making
- Making greeting cards
- Knitting hats and scarves
NOTE: Times for each project may vary and will be listed next to the project on the registration site. Virtual projects can be done at any time as long as they are completed by Jan. 17, 2022.
COVID-19 protocols
COVID-19 protocols will be enforced when participating in the in-person projects. Each location has its own COVID-19 protocols volunteers need to follow. Volunteers will be required to complete an online health screening before arriving at their in-person location. They must also wear a face covering at all times.
