Elizabeth Preston, HFC Financial Aid Administrator and SAFE@HFC founder, will host a Campus Ally training session on Friday, Nov. 6, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. This session will explain what the Campus Ally program is and will build a foundation for the next session that focuses on campus resources, according to Preston.

SAFE@HFC is a campus organization whose work focuses on providing support to LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) students, faculty, and staff. Likewise, SAFE@HFC works to engage the College community to spread awareness, provide support, and connect students and employees to resources.

What is a Campus Ally?

Many SAFE@HFC volunteers are Campus Allies, who are open and knowledgeable about LGBTQ+ issues. Campus Allies choose to provide support openly, actively, and consistently for LGBTQ+ individuals and communities. Campus Allies support full, equal civil rights; gender equality; positive social change, and they stand against discrimination and phobias: homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia. Campus Allies are often, though not always, cisgender, straight individuals. Due to these training sessions, HFC officials have been able to identify trained Campus Allies for those who are seeking support and referrals.
