Marvel recently announced that Canadian actress Iman Vellani will play Kamala Khan, alias Ms. Marvel, in the character’s eponymous TV series on the streaming service Disney+. The series will air in 2022 and is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Kamala Khan character debuted in 2014 in the pages of Marvel Comics. The third superhero to be called Ms. Marvel, Kamala is a Pakistani-American teen who became the first Muslim character to headline her own monthly comic book series published by Marvel. She is one of Marvel’s most popular characters.

HFC alumnus and award-winning writer Saladin Ahmed has chronicled the adventures of Kamala in the pages of The Magnificent Ms. Marvel since 2019. In fact, Ahmed introduced Amulet, a Dearborn-based super-hero who debuted in that title earlier this year, which received plenty of advanced media buzz.
