WHFR-FM (89.3), the student-run radio station of HFC, will host its 12th Annual WHFR Record Show Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Student & Culinary Arts Center (Building M on the main campus).

WHFR General Manager Susan McGraw is proud to announce the first WHFR Rock & Roll Craft Bazaar. Although the bazaar takes place alongside the record show, it is a separate entity, running from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The WHFR Record Show has become one of the premier shows of its kind in the Midwest, attracting vendors from the tri-state area and Canada. This show will have thousands of rare and mainstream records, CDs, DVDs, videos, and other forms of music and movie memorabilia for sale by independent, local, and out-of-state vendors. There will also be door prizes, giveaways, and more.

“We have more vendors this year – the largest number ever – with many of our regulars returning and new ones joining us,” said McGraw. “Vinyl records have increased in popularity in recent years. There has never been a better time to check out this premier show.”

As a non-commercial, volunteer-staffed station, WHFR-FM is not licensed to sell commercials and must rely heavily on support from HFC and from individual donations to operate. More than 60 percent of its operating budget comes from donor support.

Since it began as a student radio club with a closet-sized room for public address operation in 1985, WHFR-FM has developed into an award-winning, live 24/7 broadcast and Internet outlet. On-air formats include blues, world, classical, avant jazz, indie rock, alternative/modern rock, techno, urban, big band, rockabilly, Americana, local news and views, classic radio drama, and much more. All music shows highlight new releases, independent labels, and local artists.

The WHFR Record Show is open to the public. General admission is between $1-$5 on a sliding scale with an early bird admission of $5 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. HFC students and employees are admitted free with a valid HFC identification card. All proceeds benefit WHFR-FM.
