Rick Michalski appointed interim director of IRR
You may know that Dr. Chris Buczynski retired from the position of Director of Institutional Research and Reporting (IRR), effective June 30, 2019. Chris served the College for 15 years, first as an Institutional Research Analyst and then as the Director of IRR. He made strong contributions to HFC’s data and reporting structures, and we will miss his expertise and work ethic.
While a search for a permanent director is underway, Dr. Lori Gonko and I are pleased to announce that Rick Michalski will assume the role of Interim Director of IRR.
Rick has served the College for seven years and has experience in a variety of roles. He began his HFC career as a Lab Associate in the Learning Lab (2012-2014) before moving to his most recent role as a Business Intelligence Systems Analyst (2014-present). He has also taught College Success and Criminal Justice courses as an adjunct since Spring 2015.
A current Dearborn resident and Detroit native, Rick attended HFC as a student. He earned his Associate in Arts in Law Enforcement from HFC and became a Dearborn Police Officer in 2005, serving as a patrol officer until 2010. Rick also earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Arts in Public Policy from U of M Dearborn. Rick is married to Rebecca Michalski, who also works in Institutional Research, Planning, and Accreditation, the division that includes IRR. Rick and Rebecca each report separately to Lori Gonko.
During this interim appointment, Rick will supervise IRR operations. You may still make requests for data or WebFOCUS assistance with the online Data Request Form. Please continue to contact Rick directly for assistance with Tableau, our new data visualization and analysis tool.
