WHFR Radio Station wins 3 MAB Awards

WHFR (89.3 FM), HFC’s student-run independent radio station, won three Michigan Association of Broadcasters Awards at the 2018 Great Lakes Media Conference in Lansing.

Additionally, HFC student Josh Abeare won an MAB scholarship.

The winners include:

  • Second Place in the Innovations in Digital Media category: Seann Lewis for Seann Lewis – The Rhythmic Ride Awesome Digital Experience
  • Second Place in the Promotional Announcement category: Jonathan Weigel for MLK Programming
  • First Place in the category Talk Show category: Phil Maciolek for WHFR Phil Maciolek Talk Show

“We’re so proud of our WHFR members who work tirelessly to create great radio every day,” said Susan McGraw, HFC Telecommunication Professor/Faculty Chair, Department of Communication and Media. “We’re thrilled that three of our DJs were recognized with the honor of an MAB Award out of so many others in the entire state of Michigan.”

In addition to the three winners, Abeare’s $1,000 scholarship will be used to complete his associate degree in telecommunication at HFC.
