Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at HFC June 9

A free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will take place Saturday, June 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at HFC, specifically in parking lots 7, 8, and 9, the lots farthest south of the Technology Building (Bldg. E). Only residents of Wayne County can dispose of their hazardous materials at HFC. Individuals dropping off materials are required to provide proof of county residency.

Wayne County residents may safely dispose the following items:

  • Household paints, stains, and dyes
  • Household cleaners such as bathroom cleaners, furniture polish, floor care items
  • Antifreeze
  • Motor oil
  • Gasoline
  • Automotive batteries
  • Dry cell batteries
  • Propane tanks
  • Computers, printers, scanners
  • FAX machines
  • Cellular phones
  • TV sets
  • Mercury-containing thermometers and thermostats/elemental mercury
  • Fluorescent light bulbs (standard and compact)
  • Smoke detectors
  • Fire extinguishers
  • CRT-type monitors
  • Pharmaceutical waste (non-controlled substances only)
