Dearborn-based accountant Karl L. Fava donated $10,000 to the HFC Foundation this spring.

Fava challenged the Foundation Board of Directors, committing to donate $10 for every mile he rode on a bicycle trip to Southeast Asia in January. He rode 1,500 km, or approximately 1,000 miles, from Southern Thailand through all of Malaysia and into Singapore. The Foundation Board agreed to match his donation.

“Karl comes up with these donation challenges in conjunction with his adventure travels,” said A. Reginald Best, HFC Vice President of Institutional Advancement. “We are delighted and grateful that he thinks of us and, without question, we will always accept his challenges, just as we did two years ago when he went on a mountaineering expedition. We had several board members and community supporters step up and accept his challenge. Combining Karl’s donation with the generosity of these board members and other supporters, we garnered $15,000! I am grateful to everyone for meeting this challenge and showing their unswerving support for the College and Karl’s adventure.”

Currently president of Business Financial Consultants, Inc. in Dearborn, Fava earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Houston and his MBA in accounting from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He also has a Certified Public Accountant credential in Michigan, New York, and California. He has been a CPA for more than 30 years.

Fava is an adjunct instructor at HFC, where he teaches accounting. He also serves as an advisor to the HFC Accounting Department and has assisted in developing the College’s accounting curriculum. His love for HFC is represented by the Fava Family Endowed Accounting Scholarship, which supports HFC students pursuing careers in accounting. Fava was honored at HFC’s 2010 commencement ceremony with a Distinguished Service Award.
