HFC was the only National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NWCA) club to compete with other varsity programs from multiple divisions at the Al Hanke Invitational at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill. on Jan. 14. Colleges from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 3 (D3) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) competed at this tournament.

Two HFC grapplers did well at this invitational. Austin Koehler, a Belleville High School alumnus weighing in at 125 lbs., took third. Jordan Haggerty, a Petoskey High School alumnus weighing in at 197 lbs., took sixth. Koehler was 4-1 in the tournament and Haggery went 3-2 with three pins.

A total of 10 teams participated in the Al Hanke Invitational. In addition to HFC and Elmhurst, the other schools included the University of Wisconsin (UW)–Stevens Point; the University of Chicago (U-Chicago); the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa; Triton College (TC) in River Grove, Ill.; the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) in Milwaukee; Lincoln College (LC) in Lincoln, Ill.; North Central College (NCC) in Naperville, Ill.; and William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, Ill.

“I’m very proud of Jordan and Austin. They really excelled at Elmhurst College over the weekend,” said HFC wrestling coach Grant MacKenzie.
