Sadie Grzechowski showcased her artistry at the Potters Market in Southfield – the largest pottery-only art fair in the nation – Dec. 1-3. “I’m excited to participate in the Potters Market,” she said. “It’ll be my first show of this size. It’s blissful to share what you love with the world. I’m taking my passion and giving it my best shot to make it happen.”

Creating art has been part of the 2012 Southgate Anderson alumna’s life since she was 5. She’s the type of hands-on worker not afraid to get dirty. Often, she’ll leave the studio looking like she survived a mudslide. “I’m a tactile person, I love to feel different textures, which is why I carve a lot of my pieces’ surfaces. I would call my work ‘earthy.’ I like to show respect for the earth by continuing to represent the natural aspects of the art form; therefore, I do the carving, pressed plant impressions, and human figures. I even like to photograph my pieces outside with trees as the backdrop.”

Grzechowski chose HFC because she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do, and the College offered help in creating a path to her goals.

“I had no idea what I wanted to do after high school, so I just signed up for a bunch of classes and delved right in. I originally wanted to pursue photography, but at the time there was only one class available. After that, I signed up for ceramics and fell in love with clay,” she said. “I’m thankful for my experience at HFC. I’ve met so many lovely people here.”
