The Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) recently named four HFC men’s basketball players to its All-Conference Men’s Basketball Team.

The HFC Hawks earning All-Conference honors include:

  • Matthew Eldridge – third team all-conference;
  • John Merriewether – third team all-conference;
  • Kevin Rice – third team all-conference; and
  • Diangelo Cartlon – honorable mention all-conference.

“I’m grateful for this honor. I’m very happy for my teammates,” said Merriewether, a 2015 alumnus of Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in Detroit who’s in his second year on the HFC Men’s Basketball Team.

Eldridge, a 2016 Romulus High School alumnus, earned selection to the MCCAA Eastern Conference All-Freshman Team, according to HFC Athletic Director Rochelle Taylor. Head basketball coaches in the MCCAA Eastern Conference vote for All-Conference honors. In the 2016-17 season, the HFC Hawks – under Coach Tony Woods – had an overall record of 9-18 (6-10 in the MCCAA).

“We are extremely proud that these young men have earned recognition as standouts in the Eastern Conference this season. They each made their presence known to opponents and provided excitement for the fans at each of our games,” said Taylor.
