HFC Well Represented Community College Art Exhibition

Four ceramic tumblers with abstract indents and bulges, each with black interior glaze and red-brown exterior glaze

HFC Fine Arts Instructor Steve Glazer and HFC honors students Sophia Hart and Nate Zrnich currently represent HFC at the Annual Great Lakes Regional Community College Art Exhibition through Friday, Aug. 21, at Wayne State University in Detroit.

This exhibition is located in Wayne State’s Art Department Gallery, 150 Art Building, which is on 5400 Reuther Mall in Detroit. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m.

“The exhibition started with an email to community colleges to have one art faculty member and two art students contribute their artwork for this exhibition. The faculty member was allowed to submit up to two pieces and each of the students were allowed to submit up to three pieces,” said Glazer.

Glazer contributed two of his ceramic Griot masks. Hart, an Art Foundations major, contributed one ceramic sculpture and two drawings. Zrnich, a Ceramics major, contributed three groups of thrown pottery. In fact, one of Zrnich’s contributions, “Tumbler Set,” won the third place, making him eligible for a $1,000 scholarship should he decide to continue his education at Wayne State.

The exhibition includes artwork from other community colleges based in Michigan: Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC), Kirtland Community College (KCC) in Roscommon, Mid-Michigan Community College (MMCC) in Harrison, Mott Community College (MCC) in Flint, North Central Michigan College (NCMC) in Petoskey and Oakland Community College (OCC) in Auburn Hills.
