WHFR Hosts Annual Record Show Oct. 18

WHFR-FM (89.3), the student-run radio station at HFC, will host its Seventh Annual WHFR Record Show on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student & Culinary Arts Center.

The show will offer THOUSANDS of rare and mainstream records, CDs, videos and other forms of music memorabilia for sale by independent, local and out-of-state vendors. There will also be door prizes, giveaways, and much more.

This event is open to the public. General admission is between $1-$5 on a sliding scale with an early bird admission for $5 from 9 to 10 a.m. All proceeds benefit WHFR-FM.

As a non-commercial, volunteer-staffed station, WHFR-FM is not licensed to sell commercials and must rely heavily on support from HFC and private donations to operate. More than 60 percent of its operating budget comes from donor support.

The station began as a student radio club with a closet-sized room for public address operation in 1985. Since then, WHFR-FM has developed into an award-winning live 24/7 broadcast and Internet outlet. On-air formats include blues, world, classical, avant jazz, indie rock, techno, big band, rockabilly, Americana, noise, local news and views, classic radio drama and much more.

“We are extremely proud of providing almost 30 years of successful and award-winning broadcasting to the community,” said Susan McGraw, WHFR-FM general manager.
