HFC Music Concerts Make Holiday Bright

HFC's Music Program – which comprises the internationally-acclaimed Big Band, Blue Fusion, Henry Ford Chorus, Midnight Blue, Renaissance Voices and Studio 110 – will put on three concerts in December to help brighten the holiday season.

On Sunday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m., Blue Fusion, Henry Ford Chorus, Midnight Blue and Renaissance Voices will perform in the Winter Choral Concert. This concert will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 21915 Beech St. (between Oakwood and Monroe) in Dearborn.

On Friday, Dec. 19, at 8 p.m., Big Band, Blue Fusion, Midnight Blue and Studio 110 will take the stage at the Winter Jazz Concert. This concert will take place at the Adray Auditorium, located in the MacKenzie Fine Arts Center on HFC’s main campus in Dearborn.

On Sunday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m., Renaissance Voices – the all-women’s chorus that has performed on overseas tours and released three CDs – will perform “A Festival of Lessons & Carols” at the Christ Episcopal Church, located at 120 N. Military (at Cherry Hill) in Dearborn.

HFC is home to the largest music ensemble program of all two-year colleges in Michigan. Music ensembles from HFC have regularly toured and performed at special events across the country and in Europe. In January 2013, the Big Band and Midnight Blue Vocal Jazz Ensemble provided the dance music for the Inaugural Dance at the United States Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. for President Barack Obama. This was the fourth consecutive Presidential Inaugural performance for the groups. The HFC musicians also performed at National Museum of American History for approximately 4,000 attendees.

In the summer of 2008 the Big Band performed in France and at the Montreux International Jazz festival in Switzerland. Each year the group also appears at the Detroit Jazz Festival each Labor Day weekend.

Musicians in HFC ensembles represent a cross section of the HFC student body. Music courses are designed for music majors and liberal arts and technical students, as well as members of the community. Any music course can be applied toward fulfillment of the College's Humanities requirement. HFC’s many bands, choirs, jazz bands, and vocal ensembles are open to all by audition.

Tickets for each concert are $10 ($7 for senior citizens and students with a valid student ID). For questions or further information about these concerts or the HFC Music Program, contact HFC Music Instructor G. Kevin Dewey at 313.845.6474 or kdewey@hfcc.edu.
