Eileen K. Husband Joins HFC as General Counsel

HFC recently appointed Eileen K. Husband as general counsel and vice president of Legal Services.

Husband has nearly 30 years of experience as an attorney. Some of her duties at HFC include

  • providing legal advice regarding legislation;
  • making sure the College is in legal compliance;
  • assisting in the development of new College programs and policies while avoiding legal risk exposure;
  • assisting with the accreditation process;
  • grievance arbitration;
  • collective bargaining;
  • general risk prevention; and
  • contracts.

In this position, she reports directly to HFC President Dr. Stanley Jensen.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to work on cutting edge programs that will support student academic success and create pathways to new jobs responsive to our evolving economy,” said Husband.

Husband is no stranger to HFC. As a partner in the Livonia-based law firm of Cummings, McClorey, Davis, and Acho P.L.C., she served as legal counsel to the Michigan Community College Risk Management Authority (MCCRMA). This organization provides property and liability insurance, litigation defense, and related services to the 21 Michigan community colleges in the MCCRMA, including HFC.

“I have had the honor and privilege of working previously with many of the executives and faculty at HFC and am very fortunate to join a team of such outstanding professionals. Their dedication to the students, the community and future growth of the College is truly inspiring. Their commitment to the advancement of STEM programs, four-year baccalaureate degrees, the Early College and the University Center will continue to position the College as a major education institution in this region,” said Husband.

Other notable positions Husband has held include Detroit-based Racine and Associates, PLLC’s on-site corporate counsel for Greektown Casino when it first opened its doors in 1999; and as general counsel/senior director for Little Caesar Enterprises, Inc., which is the third-largest pizza franchise in the nation, from 1992-99.

Additionally, she was the assistant general counsel for the Suburban Mobility for Regional Transportation, the public transit system for the Detroit Tri-County area; and a defense litigator for Berry, Moorman, King, Cook, & Hudson, P.C. in Detroit.

A native of Dearborn, Husband graduated from the now-defunct Taylor Center High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in Economics from The University of Michigan (U-M) in 1982. She earned her juris doctorate in Law from the Detroit College of Law – now called the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Law – in 1985. A member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Michigan Bar Association and the American Bar Association, Husband resides in Novi, MI with her husband and two sons.

“Eileen Husband brings a wealth of experience in the legal arena of higher education, particularly at the community college level. I am very honored to have her join our ranks and look forward to working with her,” said Jensen.
