The HFCC Men’s Basketball Team is currently tied for third in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II with a 3-1 record (9-5 overall), while the women’s team is tied for second with a 2-2 record (9-6 overall).

On Saturday, Jan. 19, HFCC plays Alpena Community College in a special event called “Pack the Gym.” Elementary, middle and high school students are invited to attend this game for a chance to win prizes and participate in shootouts. HFCC players from both the men’s and women’s teams will sign autographs. The women play at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m. Admission is free for students with a valid school ID.

“Our gym will be on fire this month – come feel the heat,” said HFCC Athletic Director Rochelle Taylor.

On Wednesday, Jan. 23, HFCC plays Wayne County Community College District in a special event called “The Hunger Games”. Both the HFCC men and women’s basketball teams will partner with Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit in an effort to help eliminate hunger in our communities. Spectators will receive $1 off admission if they bring canned goods to the game or they can simply make a cash donation at the door. Individuals may also drop off food and/or monetary donations in PE 210 of the HFCC Athletic Memorial Building between now and Jan. 23. Games times will be at 5:30 p.m. for the women and 7:30 p.m. for the men.

“There are more than 300,000 children in southeast Michigan who do not get enough to eat. The Hawks are stepping up to help drive out hunger in Wayne County, and we invite the community to help support this important effort,” said Taylor.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and youth ages 7-12. For further information about the HFCC basketball program, contact Taylor at 313.317.4138 or via email at rtaylor33@hfcc.edu.
