Mark your calendars as HFC’s Counseling Center works with you to improve your mental health and well-being throughout the Winter 2026 semester with Mindfulness Mondays.

Everyone is invited to attend Mindfulness Mondays

Each Mindfulness Mondays session will meet in Room A-121 on the first floor of the Learning Success Center (Building A on the main campus). HFC Counselor Amy Ducklow will lead the Mindfulness Mondays sessions from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.:

  • Monday, February 2: “Circles of Control” is the first session in the Mindfulness Mondays series. The focus of the first workshop is about the circles of control in your life: the circle of concern, the circle of influence, and the circle of control. You will identify and understand your circles and learn how to cope effectively with life’s challenges.

  • Monday, February 23: The second session is the guided imagery and breathing workshop. This workshop focuses on mindfulness and conscious awareness of one’s body and its surroundings. We practice breath work, and we encourage you to discover their own natural rhythm and your capacity to relax. We will explain a grounding activity as an example of a healthy coping strategy.

  • Monday, March 30: The third session is an affirmations workshop. The importance of this session lies in the ability to foster a positive mindset and enhance self-belief. This session will help you to cultivate personal affirmations. You will learn how this can contribute to a positive mindset and promote resilience and mental strength. With practice, the result can lead to significant improvements in mental well-being and self-esteem.

  • Monday, April 20: The final session of the semester focuses on practicing deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and sensory grounding exercises. These exercises activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes a state of relaxation and leads to healthy emotional regulation.

“Join me on Mindfulness Mondays for a personal growth opportunity to learn new skills for mental strength and wellness,” said Ducklow. “These workshops will give you simple and effective tools to help you handle many challenges you may face in college and in life.”

Mindfulness Mondays are free and open to the HFC community. For questions or more information about Mindfulness Mondays, contact Ducklow at 313-845-7144 or aducklow@hfcc.edu.
