The HFC music ensembles are preparing for three concerts to celebrate the conclusion of the Winter 2026 semester.

These ensembles will perform under the leadership of HFC Director of Music Anthony Lai.

“We Have No Time To Hate” concert on April 19

“We Have No Time To Hate” will be on Sunday, April 19, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 21915 Beech St. in Dearborn.

The HFC Chorus and Eastern Michigan University Voices, under the direction of Lai and EMU’s Jillian Burgam, respectively, will perform.

“This concert will feature music from living and underrepresented composers, particularly music from the social justice songbook,” said Lai.

Spring Jazz Concert on April 22

The Spring Jazz Concert will be on Wednesday, April 22, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Adray Auditorium (Room F-100) in the MacKenzie Fine Arts Center (Building F on the main campus).

This concert will highlight several members of the Studio 110 Jazz and Funk Orchestra, including trumpeter Clifford Lewis, bassist Edward Nix, trombonist and arranger Seth Darling, drummer Reggie Williams, and alumni vocalist Naima “Akua Blue” Barker – all under the direction of Lai.

"The 4th Awakens" concert on May 4

“The 4th Awakens” concert will be on Monday, May 4, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Adray Auditorium (Room F-100) in the MacKenzie Fine Arts Center (Building F on the main campus).

The Metropolitan Symphony Band, under the direction of Lai, will perform “The 4th Awakens” (a pun on the title of 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens) in celebration of Star Wars Day, which is observed annually on May 4.

“Music from Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Fantasia 2000, and a collection of high-energy concert pieces make this symphony band concert a highlight of the year,” said Lai.

Free admission

Admission to these three concerts is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome. Doors open 30 minutes before the start of each concert.
